Comparison
SkyTrak ST MAX vs Garmin R10
This is really a room question. The ST MAX sits beside the ball and fits short rooms; the R10 sits behind you and needs depth. Price and plans decide the rest.

SkyTrak ST MAX
$1,695

Garmin R10
$500
My verdict
If your room is shorter than about 15 ft, I'd pick the ST MAX without much thought: it doesn't need the 6–8 ft behind you that the R10's radar does, and its camera reads launch more directly. At the $1,695 sale price with year one of Core included, it's strong value.
If you have the depth, practice outdoors, or just want the cheapest way to start, the R10 wins on cost: about $800 over three years against roughly $2,295 for the ST MAX once Core renews.
Choose the SkyTrak ST MAX if…
- your room is short
- you mostly play indoors
- you want an iPad-friendly camera unit
Choose the Garmin R10 if…
- you want to spend under $600
- you practice outdoors a lot
- you have 15 ft+ of depth

Street prices seen 2026-10-27. Plans = the yearly plan a typical owner needs for course play, minus any free first year. My math.

Plans and running costs
SkyTrak's course play needs Core ($299.99–$349.99 a year) or Elite ($599.99); the first year of Core is included with the ST MAX right now. Garmin Golf is $99.99 a year and optional; range mode works free.
GSPro is the other difference: GSPro's FAQ doesn't list SkyTrak, and owners connect it unofficially. The R10 connects through a connector too, but without a maker gateway plan.
What owners say
ST MAX owners praise faster shot registration and complain about network drops that need a reboot. R10 owners like the price and portability and complain about spin indoors and short readings in cramped rooms.

Garmin R10
- Spin is calculated, not measured, so indoor spin/spin axis is unreliable without RCT ballsgolfsimulatorforum.com, playbetter.com

Questions people ask
Is SkyTrak more accurate than the Garmin R10?
The ST MAX reads the ball's launch with a camera beside it, which owners generally find more reliable indoors than the R10's calculated spin. Outdoors with room for the ball to fly, the R10 does well for its price.
Which is better for a small room?
The SkyTrak ST MAX, because it sits beside the ball and needs no space behind you. The R10 needs about 15 ft of depth.
