The best launch monitors with no subscription

Pay once and own every feature. These units don't lock anything behind a yearly plan, though third-party software like GSPro still costs extra.

Carry & Spin is reader-supported. If you buy through links on this page I may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. It never decides what I recommend, and no brand pays to be included. Affiliate disclosure

Yearly plans are the part of launch monitor pricing I like least. Some are optional, but others lock the simulator itself behind a fee, and Foresight showed in September 2026 that plans can change after you buy. These units avoid that.

Quick picks

Street price I saw on 2026-10-27 plus three years of the plan a typical owner needs for course play.

How I put this together: I haven't had these units in my own bay. My picks come from the makers' specs and plan pages, retailer listings, published reviews and owner reports, each linked in the sources, and I name the outlet whenever I mention a hands-on test. My research method.

What owners like

  • Hands-on forum tester very impressed: spin on unmarked balls, solid chipping/putting, works outdoors, clear upgrade over Home model.
  • Impact location, club speed and smash factor at this price drew excitement from forum members.
  • Accuracy close to units costing 2-3x more.

What owners complain about

  • Club data needs two stickers per club; shaft stickers may peel and few spares included.
  • Screen and IR lights look unprotected; may need extra protection in a sim.
  • Buyers asking whether GSPro connector disconnects and lefty/righty switching are fixed (open questions).

Sits behind the ball

FlightScope Mevo Gen2

$250

$2,049

No subscription. Extra features are one-time add-ons (Pro Package). Full course play usually means GSPro ($250/yr) or E6.

What owners like

  • Picks up every swing and gives sensible angle-of-attack and low-point readings
  • Battery life is a big step up from the Mevo+ and short-game reads improved slightly
  • Easy to share between left and right-handed golfers because it sits behind the ball

What owners complain about

  • Some owners see spin reading too high and carries too short with irons, which support could not resolve
  • Speed-training mode under-reads swing speed by roughly 10-20 mph
  • Face Impact Location add-on missed most shots in a dim room; needs good lighting
3

What owners like

  • Cheap entry with pay-as-you-go credits instead of a subscription.
  • Light and convenient to set up.
  • Direction readings stay consistent even with foam Almost Golf balls in tight rooms.

What owners complain about

  • Accuracy of spin and dispersion is mixed; must use the supplied marked balls.
  • Unit stopped re-arming every few shots in GSPro until the owner fixed garage Wi-Fi/Bluetooth signal.
  • No club speed or smash factor; dynamic loft unreliable.

"No subscription" doesn't always mean no yearly cost

If you want to play realistic courses, most people end up paying for GSPro ($250 a year). The good news with every unit above that supports it is that you pay GSPro only, not a maker's gateway plan on top. Watch out for units marketed as subscription-free when they aren't: the Blue Tees Rainmaker's app costs $79 a year after year one.

Questions people ask

Which golf launch monitor has no subscription?

Square Golf (Home and Omni), FlightScope Mevo Gen2, Swing Caddie SC4 PRO, Ernest Sports ES Tour Plus 2.0 and Shot Scope LM1 need no yearly plan.

Does the Garmin R10 need a subscription?

No, range mode is free, but Home Tee Hero course play needs Garmin Golf ($99.99/yr).
