SkyTrak ST MAX review

For short rooms on a mid budget, this is the unit I keep coming back to. It sits beside the ball, so it doesn't need space behind you, and at its $1,695 sale price it's strong value. Just budget for the Core plan from year two.

My take on the SkyTrak ST MAX

The ST MAX replaced the SkyTrak+ in late 2025. Like Foresight's units it sits beside the ball, so you don't lose 6–8 ft of room behind you the way you do with radar. That alone makes it the most practical choice for a lot of basements and spare rooms.

Owners praise faster shot registration than older SkyTraks and the GOLFTEC speed training. The complaints are network-related: drops that need a reboot to restore ball detection, plus the usual SkyTrak frustration with short putts in sim play.

Plans are where you need to pay attention. Course play needs Core ($299.99–$349.99 a year), and the first year is included with the ST MAX at the time of writing. GSPro's own FAQ doesn't list SkyTrak as supported; owners connect it unofficially. If GSPro is a must for you, I'd look at Square Golf Omni or a Uneekor instead.

What I'd check before buying

  • Core plan renewal from year two
  • The unit moves to the other side for left-handed golfers
  • GSPro only works unofficially

How I put this review together: I haven't had this unit in my own bay. It's built from SkyTrak's own pages, retailer listings, published reviews and owner reports, each linked below. My research method.

The real cost of the SkyTrak ST MAX

I saw it at $1,695.00 (list price $2,995.00). Course play needs Core ($299.99–349.99/yr) or Elite ($599.99/yr). The first year of Core comes with the ST MAX at the time of writing.

Plan or add-onPer yearRequired? What it unlocks
Essential$99.99OptionalDriving range, practice libraries, Sim Club
Core: Foresight$299.99OptionalCourse Play with 51 Foresight courses; 1 year included with ST MAX after registration

Elite$599.99OptionalBoth libraries + perks
Year one
$1,695
Three years
$2,295
Five years

My math: price + the yearly plan a typical owner needs to play full courses ($299.99/yr, first year included). Excludes net, mat, screen and projector. Compare every plan.

The room it needs

The SkyTrak ST MAX is a radar + camera unit (side of ball (hitting area)). Units beside the ball read the launch with cameras, so they need little depth, but they must move to the other side for a left-handed golfer.

SkyTrak's smallest studio/enclosure spec is 8 ft W x 7 ft 5 in H x 4 ft D; that is the enclosure footprint, not a total room depth (golfer still needs swing room behind). Product page lists location as 'Indoor'. Golfers Authority says outdoor use needs a level surface and no direct sunlight on the lens. Studio minimum taken from SkyTrak's SkyTrak+ page (same form factor); ST MAX page gives no explicit space spec. CONFLICT: ST MAX product page lists location as 'Indoor'; Golfers Authority and Stymie say indoor and outdoor. Outdoor left unverified.

What it measures (and what it estimates)

Makers rarely label which numbers are measured and which are calculated. Where the sources split them, I show it. A calculated value isn't useless, but it's more likely to drift indoors.

Measured

  • ball speed
  • launch angle
  • side angle
  • back spin
  • side spin
  • club head speed (radar)

Calculated / estimated

  • carry distance
  • total distance
  • descent angle
  • shot shape
  • smash factor
  • club path
  • face angle
  • face to path

Same data set as SkyTrak+ (15 combined metrics per Golfers Authority); SkyTrak does not publish measured vs calculated split - split here is inferred. Hitting zone ~4 x 4 in.

Software and compatibility

Native app: SkyTrak app 5.0+ (range, Course Play, GOLFTEC Speed Training). Runs on Windows 10/11, macOS (M1+), iOS/iPadOS (M1+; no iPhone Course Play), Android (12 GB RAM).

What published reviews found

These outlets published their own reviews. I summarize their headline verdict; read the full review for their testing details.

  • PlayBetter

Excellent but only marginally better than SkyTrak+; worth it mainly for the speed-training program.

  • Golfers Authority

Performs almost identically to SkyTrak+; buy it for training features, not tracking upgrade.

  • Breaking Eighty

Compared in SkyTrak+ review; SkyTrak+ at closeout is better value.

  • GolfLink

'Pro accuracy, surprising price' - accessible at-home option (via search snippet; page 403).

Questions people ask

How much does the SkyTrak ST MAX really cost?

$1,695 at the street price I saw on 2026-10-27. Course play needs Core ($299.99–349.99/yr) or Elite ($599.99/yr). The first year of Core comes with the ST MAX at the time of writing. By my math that's about $2,295 over three years and $2,895 over five.

Does the SkyTrak ST MAX need a subscription?

No plan is required for the core features. Course play needs Core ($299.99–349.99/yr) or Elite ($599.99/yr). The first year of Core comes with the ST MAX at the time of writing.

Can you use the SkyTrak ST MAX outdoors?

The sources disagree or don't say, so check with the seller before buying for outdoor use.

It sits beside the ball, so it needs no space behind you. Plan for about 15 ft of total depth with a 10 ft ball-to-screen gap, and room for the unit on the hitting side.
