Phigolf 2 review

It's a golf video game with a swing stick, not a practice tool, and that's fine as long as you buy it for the right reason.

I'd buy it if

Family fun in small rooms with no net or screen.

I'd skip it if

You want real practice data.

My take on the Phigolf 2

Phigolf uses a motion sensor on a swing stick (or your own club) and never tracks a ball, so it works in a living room with no net or screen. Owners say it's very easy to set up and fun with family.

As practice data it's weak: owners report inflated distances, unreliable face angle, connectivity drops and lag when casting to a TV.

I'd buy it as a party game. For practice, even the cheapest radar unit is a better tool.

What I'd check before buying

  • It doesn't track a ball
  • Bluetooth and casting lag
  • Battery life

How I put this review together: I haven't had this unit in my own bay. It's built from Phigolf's own pages, retailer listings, published reviews and owner reports, each linked below. My research method.

The real cost of the Phigolf 2

I saw it at $263.20 (list price $329.00). No subscription required; optional E6 ($94.99) and WGT add-ons.

What it measures (and what it estimates)

Makers rarely label which numbers are measured and which are calculated. Where the sources split them, I show it. A calculated value isn't useless, but it's more likely to drift indoors.

Measured

  • club head speed
  • swing path
  • tempo
  • face angle
  • attack angle

Calculated / estimated

  • estimated distance

All data derived from club/stick motion; no ball is measured. Golf Insider found consistent club-path error and unreliable face angle vs Trackman.

Software and compatibility

Native app: Phigolf app. Runs on iOS, Android, TV via casting/Apple TV/Chromecast/HDMI.

What published reviews found

These outlets published their own reviews. I summarize their headline verdict; read the full review for their testing details.

  • Golf Insider UK

Think of it as an interactive golf video game; swing data not accurate enough to improve most golfers.

  • MyGolfSpy

'Is a $300 Golf Simulator Any Good?' - sensor picks up exaggerated shot shapes well but predicted distances are severely inflated (from search snippet; page 403).

  • Gear Diary

Easy, fun with lots of play options; wishes for a Smart TV app to avoid casting lag (from search snippet).
